बच्चों के माता पिता, दूजा नाहीं कोइ ।
दादू निपजै भाव सूं, सतगुरु के घट होइ ॥

जब बच्चा छोटा होता है, वह अपने घराने की बोली से अनजान होता है | माता बच्चे की आँखों में निहारती है और बच्चा माता की आँखों में देखती है | इस प्रकार बेज़बानी की ज़बान(मूक भाषा) द्वारा बच्चे को अपनी बोली को समझने और बोलने योग्य बना लेती है | माता बच्चे का हर प्रकार से ध्यान रखती है कि बच्चा कहीं आग में हाथ न ड़ाल ले, कहीं गड्ढे में न गिर जाये, कहीं कोई कीड़ा उसे न काट ले |

वह उसको खिलाती-पिलाती है और स्वच्छ रखती है | बच्चे को ह्रदय से, ध्यानपूर्वक मति और बुद्धि देती है, यहाँ तक कि बच्चा सयाना और ज़वान हो जाता है | ठीक इसी प्रकार, शिष्य जब सतगुरु के घर में जन्म लेता है तब वह परमार्थ से बिलकुल अनजान होता है, उसकी सम्पूर्ण बुद्धि और मति एक प्रकार की मलिनता से ग्रस्त होती है और वह दुनियादारी में फँसा रहता है |

मन-बुद्धि के फैलाव के कारण हैं, गुरु मन और इन्द्रियों के स्थिर रखने का साधन प्रदान करते हैं और अपने आंतरिक ध्यान द्वारा इनको एकाग्र करते है और बुद्धि को स्थिर करके इस मलिनता से शिष्य को निर्मल करते हैं | परमार्थ में मन और इन्द्रियों को वश में होना और बुद्धि का स्थिर होना आवश्यक है |

साथ ही गुरु अपनी मेहर भरी दृष्टि द्वारा आन्तरिक स्थिरता प्रदान करके शिष्य को राम नाम की अनबोली और अनलिखित भाषा को समझने योग्य बना देते हैं | गुरु को शिष्य की बेहतरी और उन्नति का हमेशा ध्यान रहता है भले ही शिष्य इन बातों से बेखबर हो |

वे यह यत्न करते हैं कि शिष्य सब प्रकार की मलिनताओं को दूर करके पवित्र और निर्मल रहे और उसके सारे अवगुण धुल जाएँ | गुरु अर्जुन साहिब फरमाते हैं:
सुखदाता गुरु सेवीऐ सभि अवगण कढै धोइ ॥२॥
सेवा मंगै सेवको लाईआं अपुनी सेव ॥ (SGGS 43)
पूर्ण गुरु शिष्य के सारे दुर्मति के मेल उतार देता है और सुमति प्रदान करके उसे सयाना बनाता है और उसके सब बंधन काट देता है | ऐसा गुरु धन्य है |

When a child is young, he is unaware of the language of his heritage. Mother looks lovingly in the eyes of her child and child in return looks lovingly towards her. With this unspoken language of communication, mother makes him fit to understand the verbal communication of the land. Mother takes care of her child at every moment as he may put his hand in fire, fall in a pit, be bitten by some insect.

She heartedly and attentively provides intellect and understanding to her child even when he grows mature and enters into youth age. In the same way when a disciple is reborn into the house of Satguru (Perfect Master) who initiates him in the mysteries of Holy Spirit (Ram Naam), he is unaware about the intricacies of spirituality and his intellect is shadowed by filth and dirt of this world.

Mind-intellect is the reason of scattering of attention and Guru provides him the means to stop his mind from scattering and focus his mind and senses towards inner regions. He purifies the mind by focussing his intellect.

He trains his disciple towards inner stability of mind by his Divine Grace and makes him understand the unwritten and unspoken language of Divine Word (Ram naam). Guru always keeps his mind in the welfare and progress of his disciple.

He tries him to make pure and perfect free from any blemishes. Guru Arjun Dev says:
सुखदाता गुरु सेवीऐ सभि अवगण कढै धोइ ॥२॥
सेवा मंगै सेवको लाईआं अपुनी सेव ॥ (SGGS 43)
Serve the Guru, the Giver of Peace; He shall remove and wash off all your faults. Your servant begs to serve those who are enjoined to Your service.
